Aripo Caves

Lying in the northern edge of the Trinidad Island, these caves are a wonder to watch. Serving as home to oilbirds, a rare species of nocturnal birds flying in the dark, these caves also shelter bats. Accessing the limestone caves need an intensive hike. The caves boast of rich stalagmites and stalactites. The forest appears stunning in February when the mountain trees displaying their vibrant orange color.

Fort George

Its location adds up to the charm. Snuggled around 1,100 feet up in a hill, the fort exudes beautiful views of Port of Spain. Various original buildings and artifacts, encompassing the barracks, lighthouse and the cannons are still open for tourists. The landscaped grounds also offer unlimited opportunities to enjoy a fun-filled picnic.

Caroni Bird Sanctuary

The sanctuary sprawls over 13,865 acres of area that is enveloped with marshes, forest and lagoons. A variety of birds and mammals reside here encompassing cardinals, the scarlet lbis and herons. Tree boas and various species of snakes, fish and turtles are also here. Tourists can take delight in photography, bird watching or fishing tours. There is lot to enjoy for families as well.

Carnival

The carnival marks celebration which is held on the Monday and Tuesday before Lent. Though dates vary every year yet the land enjoys festivity that is displayed in parades, live music, masquerade events and various organized parties on the streets of Trinidad. Tourists can enjoy street competitions that encompass contests among bands, calypso and costume designers. There are shows and contests to entertain visitors. The merrymaking start with J’ouvert, which is a street party organized at 4 a.m. Singers, dancers and people move in the streets carrying pitchforks and cover in mud and oil.
