Fort de France

St. Pierre

Once called as the “Paris of the Caribbean”, it was the former capital of Martinique. Due to a 1902 eruption of Mount Pele, there was a huge destruction in which 20,000 locals got killed. The sole survivor was in a prison cell, still can be seen today. Other ruins encompass the shell of the town’s theater where you can see various modern structures constructed atop the stone remnants of the ancient town. The tiny seaside Musee Vulcanologique also elaborates the rise and fall of the town.

A trip to these sites enables you to visit a botanical garden as well as an art museum.

Martinique Beaches

Beaches in Martinique vary in styles and shapes. These are well-installed with beach facilities. Many of them are dotted in various parts of the island. The most famous being Anse des Salines, which serves as a wonderful getaway for local and international travelers. Anse Ceron is another one of the north’s black sand beaches. Gifted with a mighty sea bed, it is also perfect for diving and snorkeling. Beaches on the east side receive less crowd and offer the spectacular views.
